Who We Are: Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Grindcore With a Drum Machine

· The Band

Some bands need a drummer. We decided early on that a machine could hit harder and faster than any human. Here's a quick guide to who we are, the band behind the dripping wordmark.

Where are we from?

We come from Springfield, Massachusetts. We formed there in 1994, first under the name Surgical Dysfunctions, and switched to our current name the same year. Usually it's shortened to ANb.

What do we sound like?

Grindcore at full speed. Songs are short, loud and packed tight, and the drums are programmed, not played. ANb is one of the best-known drum-machine grindcore bands, and we don't bring a live drummer to shows either. How short can the songs get? Altered States of America fits 100 songs into just under 22 minutes.

Who is in the band today?

Scott Hull plays guitar and programs the drums. He is the only member who has been there all along, and he also plays guitar in Pig Destroyer. Next to him are vocalists Jay Randall and Richard Johnson and bassist John Jarvis. Kat Katz sang with us from 2007 to 2018.

The albums so far

  • Honky Reduction (1998)
  • Frozen Corpse Stuffed with Dope (2002)
  • Altered States of America (2003)
  • Agorapocalypse (2009)

In 2016 came the EP Arc, a slow, heavy turn into sludge and doom.

Do we play live?

Rarely. We played our first full live sets at Maryland Deathfest in 2015.

Wear the noise

If ANb is your kind of noise, wear it. Every design in our shop comes on tees, hoodies and sweatshirts, with kids' and youth sizes too.
